Brian Hall Brings GIS Experience to DEVNET as Project Manager

DEVNET is excited to announce that Brian Hall has joined its team as a Project Manager. Hall’s career in the GIS field includes 15 years’ combined experience working as GIS Director in Ohio for Wayne County and Stark County.

DEVNET prides itself on being current with technology while maintaining continuity with previous releases that our clients know and love. DEVNET is proactively expanding its product line through improvements to the core system, as well as developing new extensions and product additions. Our focus in 2015 was state-of-the-art GIS integration and an improved user experience; 2016 will bring major developments in mobile, workflow, reporting, and more.

“My years of county GIS experience will be an asset to DEVNET as it works to integrate new technology in the system,” Hall said. “Working with many different county offices has developed my understanding for bringing geographic solutions and enhancements to work processes. DEVNET’s design can be applied to areas that maybe have not been previously explored. DEVNET has the potential to change how county government collaborates and shares work processes to make counties more effective in their service to the public.”

Hall originally learned about DEVNET while working as GIS Director for Stark County, Ohio. While evaluating vendors during the RFP process for a new CAMA/Tax system, he said DEVNET became a very intriguing option.

“DEVNET’s integration of GIS right inside the CAMA truly peaked my interest,” recalled Hall. “Typically, GIS was always a separate export and a standalone system. The prospect of all the feature-rich data of the CAMA system being directly integrated with the geographical location of the parcel felt like a dream come true. This inspired me to keep an eye on where DEVNET was heading and ultimately led me to joining the company.”

For his initial project with DEVNET, Hall will be working with Gaston County, North Carolina.

“My goal in Gaston County is to provide a system that will set the standard for the state,” he explained. “The county’s willingness to embrace the value of adding maps directly inside the CAMA/Tax system will make this possible and will help enhance the efficiency and fairness in assessing. North Carolina will note improvements in Gaston County’s assessment and taxation process. I am excited to be a part of the team bringing DEVNET to the state.”

Jeffrey Varner joins DEVNET as Sales Manager

DEVNET, Inc., is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Varner has joined the DEVNET sales team as a new Sales Manager.

Jeff is currently a member of the Swatara Township Board of Commissioners in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and will continue serving in this capacity. Prior to making the decision to join DEVNET, Jeff served as the Deputy Director of Communications and Special Assistant to the Lieutenant Governor in the Lieutenant Governor’s Office in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

In his new role at DEVNET, Jeff is responsible for lead generation and managing the sales effort throughout Pennsylvania and other assigned territories. “I’m excited to be a member of the DEVNET team and look forward to building long-term client relationships,” Jeff said. “I embrace the opportunity to provide local government leaders with DEVNET products that will empower them to provide solutions as they serve the public.”

During his four years with the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, Jeff developed relationships across the entire state of Pennsylvania. He visited every county numerous times and worked together with state and local leaders on a wide range of issues. The Lieutenant Governor was chairman of the Local Government Advisory Committee that met regularly with various public officials across the Commonwealth to discuss how the state could better meet the needs of local governments. Jeff, as a staffer, gained unique insight into county government operations and established extensive associations.

As a Swatara Township commissioner, Jeff is currently Chairman of the Codes Committee and serves on the Recreation Committee and the Contract Negotiation Committee. He has strengthened his relationships with local government leaders and has experienced firsthand how government efficiency benefits the public.

Dauphin County has been a DEVNET client since 2005, and it was through the county that Jeff was introduced to DEVNET. “It has been evident that DEVNET takes pride in and places importance on the relationships it forms,” he noted. “DEVNET is an industry leader that has a commitment to continuously improve its product and services. There are not many companies that I have heard such great things about.”

Jeff is an outstanding addition to our DEVNET sales team. His reputation, recommendations, relationships and public sector experience will be invaluable to the DEVNET sales effort. Jeff has the endorsement of many DEVNET customers throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Given his background, relationships, and knowledge of local government, we couldn’t be more pleased to have him be a part of our continued growth in Pennsylvania and the other markets we serve.

Mason County Illinois Transitions to DEVNET Property Tax Software

DEVNET is pleased to announce that Mason County, Illinois, has chosen to transition to the DEVNET Property Tax Assessment Administration, Billing and Collection, and hosted wEdge e-government solution.

DEVNET is thankful to add yet another Illinois county in 2014.

“Mason County is transitioning from a ‘home grown’ system that we have used since the 1980s into commercial software,” said Mason County Administrator Bill Blessman. “We feel the county will be better situated to meet future demands for data and reporting related to the property tax system, particularly as the statutory demands become more and more complex.”

Blessman continued, “We look forward to working with DEVNET. Having served as county clerk for nearly 30 years prior to becoming county administrator, I have long been familiar with DEVNET’s products and services. DEVNET is the recognized industry leader in Illinois for products and support, and we are pleased to become part of that team. I have known some of the DEVNET staff for nearly 30 years, and I greatly value the knowledge and experience that my former colleagues bring to the table.”

About Mason County

Mason County sits in central Illinois between the Sangamon River on the south and the Illinois River on the west, with its County Seat in Havana. Mason County was created in 1841 and named in honor of George Mason, the Virginia statesman and delegate to the 1787 U.S. Constitutional Convention who campaigned for the adoption of the United States Bill of Rights. The county is served by seven major highways and the Union Pacific Railroad and the Illinois Midland Railway. Mason County is home to the Jake Wolf Memorial Fish Hatchery, Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge, Sand Ridge State Forest, Mason State Tree Nursery, and the Sanganois Conservation Area. Due to the region’s sandy soil, Mason County is a major producer of pumpkins, watermelons, and cantaloupes.

Whiteside County is rich in history, agriculture, and industry. The county was established on January 16, 1836. It is the namesake of General Samuel Whiteside who, as a major, fought in the Indian Wars in this section of the country from 1812 until the close of the Black Hawk War. The county also boasts the birthplace of President Ronald Reagan (in Tampico), the Albany Mounds State Historic Site, and a segment of one of the first continental highways — U.S. Route 30, also known as the Lincoln Highway.
